Key Stage 3Key Stage 4 – Revision –  Assessments & Exams – Policies

At St Joseph’s we approach science in a way that encourages students to develop their natural curiosity about the world we live in. Science lessons explore many scientific issues that are debated by today’s society. This equips our students for making judgements about science in their everyday lives.

In Year 7, 8 and 9 we study Activate Science. Activate Science is an exciting new KS3 Science course designed to spark curiosity in science and support you on your journey through KS3 to KS4 success.

We offer 2 courses at Key Stage 4:

AQA Separate Science – Students study GCSEs in Biology, Chemistry and Physics – gaining three GCSEs

AQA Combined Science Trilogy – Students study all 3 disciplines in Year 9, 10 and 11 – gaining two GCSEs.

In Year 9 and 10 the students all study the same content. After assessing students at the end of Year 9 and in Year 10, those who make outstanding progress will be given the opportunity to study AQA Separate Sciences. Effectively students will either be entered for Separate Sciences or for the Combined Science Trilogy based on their ability.  (For details see the examination dates section)
