TENNIS LEADERS DO SCHOOL PROUD AT CUMBRIA SCHOOL GAMES

St Joseph’s year 8 sports leaders rounded off their year of leadership by helping to run the Tennis event at the prestigious Cumbria School Games.

Working alongside students from Netherhall School at Carlisle’s Chatsworth Tennis Club our leaders job was to use their collective leadership skills to umpire well over 100 Tennis matches for 8 and 9 year olds and under a blazing sun they did an amazing job and were well complimented for their efforts too.

Sports Development Officer David Wise was in charge of the leaders for the day and was very proud of the group; “Tennis Umpiring isn’t the easiest of jobs to do as it requires concentration for a long period of time, lots of instant decision making and people skills too but our leaders really nailed it”. “It was a very hot day and the event lasted for around three hours but the students never wavered and were a credit to the School”.

As a reward ten of the leaders are currently in Wimbledon and will be watching Serena Williams amongst others on centre court.
