Year 9 students recently took part in an annual World of Work Day which gave them the opportunity to interview a number of business professions from a wide range of industries, as well as gain an insight into the world of work. The event was organised in conjunction with Inspira.
The event, saw over 20 ambassadors from a variety of different vocations in a “speed networking” session, the aim of which was for students to find out as much as possible about their individual careers and gain valuable advice from industry experts.
Ambassadors came from companies including the Cumberland Building Society, Kaefer Nuclear Services, Ansaldo Nuclear, Morgan Sindall, Nuvia Ltd, the British Army and Navy, The Trout Hotel, The Colorful North and PPM Ltd
Other sessions on the day included:
•‘Team Building and Communication Skills’ session which had students involved in a number of problem solving activities.
•”Consolation”, which raised awareness of the range and levels of jobs available and the concept of transferable skills.
•”Engineering / STEM” session which involved students looking into the various opportunities within the Engineering sector and completing a structural / engineering problem using midget gems and cocktails sticks!
