HISTORIC WALKING FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT TAKES PLACE AT ST JOSEPH’S SCHOOL

The first ever Walking Football tournament in West Cumbria was held at St Joseph’s School in Workington on the 20th of May.

Walking Football is fast becoming THE growth Sport in the country and around the world and is aimed at men and women aged over 50 getting back into sporting activity.

Workington St Joseph’s Walking Football group have been in existence since it was started in 2016 through funded sessions at the School and has expanded to deliver 2 sessions per week and play regular friendlies with Allerdale Girls Parents and Coaches team and the team recently took part in the FA People’s Cup.

By running a tournament it is hoped that other clubs in Cumbria will host their own to bring into existence a circuit of events throughout the year.

Sunday’s competition had teams from Carlisle United, Penrith and Workington playing in a round robin league of 15 minute matches with a final to finish.
