Maths, doodles and juggling

St Joseph’s School has recently welcomed Mr. Colin Wright from Keele University, who gave three inspirational and engaging talks to our top Maths students.

Year 7 and Year 8 were introduced to topology by constructing the Moebius Strip and investigating the number of edges and faces their different shapes had.

Year 9 saw how “doodles” lead to Maths and how this all could help to prevent accidents and is useful in the modern social networks.

Year 10 students, as well as the teachers, were stunned by Mr. Wright’s juggling skills and the unexpected connection between juggling patterns and Maths.

The students enjoyed the day and we are very grateful to Mr. Wright for his ability to bring Maths to life!
