Thursday 4th May: The English Martyrs

The Sign of the Cross

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Reflection

Today the church remember the English Martyrs.

During the English Reformation, many hundreds of brave men and women suffered all kinds of brutal persecution in order to cling to the Catholic faith that had been integral to the life of the nation for over a thousand years. Many were subject to heavy fines, exclusion, and prison sentences. For others, particularly priests, or anyone assisting a priest, torture and a death sentence was the expected outcome.

Prayer

Loving Father, thank you for the witness that these men and women are to the faith, right here in our own country.  Thank you for their bravery. Please help us to be brave when we have to stand up for what is true and right. In Jesus name, Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of death. Amen.

Our Lady Queen of Peace pray for us.

St Joseph pray for us

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
