Tuesday 14th March: The Lost Son

The theme of this school week is: Reconciliation.

The Sign of the Cross

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Reflection

The following clip (6 mins) sets Jesus’s story of the Lost Son at a party laid on by the tax collector, Matthew, a well known ‘sinner’ resented by Jesus’s followers, especially Peter. Matthew and Peter, recognise themselves in the roles of ‘lost son’ and ‘elder brother’ and come to understand the ‘Father’s’ love for them both and his desire that they be reconciled. They both become followers of Jesus.

Prayer

Lord, in the story of the lost son you give us a picture of the Father’s infinite love for each of us. The lost son thought himself worthless but the father had mercy and lifted him to his feet. Help us to realise our infinite worth in God’s eyes.

Amen

Our Lady Queen of Peace pray for us.

St Joseph pray for us

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
